The Young Americans for Freedom chapter at the University of Wisconsin—Madison is hosting Katie Pavlich, a second amendment rights supporter and the news editor of Townhall.com, on campus this evening. In response, the campus left is planning “The Bonerfide Penis Arts Fest” sponsored by the “Cocks not Glocks” student group.
“Pavlich frequently claims that rape and campus sexual assault can be prevented by carrying firearms,” the Facebook post reads. “On a campus where 1 in 4 women have been sexually assaulted, largely by fellow students, her unrealistic insinuations mean deadly consequences for our student population.”
Apparently it’s wrong for women to shoot rapists because of the “deadly consequences for our student population.”
Attendees of the protest are asked to create penis poetry and help create a wall of genitalia art. In addition to receiving a free sex toy just for attending, there is an educational component to the protest.
“All protestors will be required to attend an information session where we will discuss how to discuss the sex toy in a sex positive manner, and how to compose your own argument as to why you are uncomfortable and afraid of campus carry legislation,” a notice on Facebook said.
One of the organizers of the protest, Katherine Kerwin, said the prominent display of sex toys will, “draw attention to the absurd potential of guns on campus.” Kerwin recently was quoted by Democratic state legislators who were opposed to protect free speech on college campuses, reserving to the campus left the power to shut down speakers on campus they don’t like.
It is unknown if the protesters plan on disrupting Pavlich’s speech this evening. The University of Wisconsin System recently adopted a policy of disciplining students who disrupt public speakers on UW campuses.
