By Sen. Terry Moulton (R-Chippewa Falls)

The most important thing a legislator can do is protect life. It’s the cornerstone of my work as a senator, and any candidate I endorse must share that same philosophy.

I’m proud to enthusiastically endorse Leah Vukmir for U.S. Senate because I am 100-percent sure she will be a passionate voice for the unborn. Leah will not only fight for our most vulnerable when the cameras are on, but also behind closed doors against leadership and other legislators. I know this because I’ve seen it.

When the bill came out to ban the sale of fetal baby body parts in 2015, Leah immediately added her name as a co-author and pushed the bill through her Health Committee, holding a vote and sending it on for the whole Senate to consider. Far too many others buckled to the pressure of the abortion lobby and its allies, but Leah was strong. We fought and pushed so that Wisconsin babies wouldn’t be aborted and sold under the name of “research.” Unfortunately, we came up short.

This last session, I authored the bill. Knowing Leah wouldn’t be their pawn, other members of leadership circumvented the committee she chaired, sending the bill to another committee, that chairman never let the bill get a vote. Furious, Leah fought along side the Heal Without Harm coalition and me to get the bill a hearing and a vote, but the influence of University of Wisconsin researchers and interests who want to profit off the murder of babies was still too strong.

In our caucus debate, Leah was one of only a few voices who spoke up with me to defend the precious unborn. Sadly, a few senators who say they’re pro-life on the campaign trail stayed silent. Even worse, some fought against this bill. Not Leah. Leah was adamant that we should follow through on our campaign promises and vote to protect life.

Leah’s words mean something. When she says she’ll work to defund Planned Parenthood at the federal level, confirm judges who value life and pass a national bill to ban abortions for babies who can feel pain, it’s more than just talk. She will do it. Her words come with action.

In the Republican primary, the choice is easy. I will support the proven advocate for Wisconsin’s unborn babies, Leah Vukmir, and I encourage you to join me.

Terry Moulton is the senator for the 23rd district and is the author of the “Heal Without Harm” legislation.
