Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI04) wants to stop the sale of Democracy, and she’s willing to have fundraisers with D.C. lobbyists until it happens.

On Wednesday, well-known lobbyists Bill and Cindy Broydrick hosted a fundraiser in Washington D.C. for Moore. The cost to attend was $1000 per person for individuals and $1500 for guests representing political action committees. A listing as a host of the fundraiser cost a mere $2,500.

Bill Broydrick, who has raised money for both Republicans and Democrats, is such a Washington D.C. insider he even ended up in the phone records of the late Deborah Jeane Palfrey, a.k.a. the “D.C. Madam,” who operated an infamous prostitution ring in the nation’s capital.

Broydrick is also a former Wisconsin Democratic legislator and as recently as the 2011-12 legislative session was a lobbyist in Madison. In 1989, Broydrick pleaded guilty to providing an illegal gift to former state Sen. Gary George (D-Milwaukee).

The Broydrick fundraiser comes just a month after a call by Moore on Twitter for ending the “culture of corruption.”

“Congress is entrusted with protecting our Democracy, not selling it out to the highest bidder,” Moore wrote. “We’ve got to put an end to the #CultureOfCorruption so Washington can start working #ForThePeople.”

It’s unknown how many of “ThePeople” were able to afford the $1,000 per person cost for a fundraiser at the George Town Club.

Despite a message left for Moore’s spokesman, we did not receive a call back with a statement.
