Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI03) will have at least one Republican challenger in 2020. River Falls businessman John Garske will be announcing his candidacy for congress on Thursday.
Garske is a vocational rehabilitation counselor and the owner of Garske’s Veteran Services that provides employment services to eligible veterans. Garske also served for 20 years in the US Army as a Chief Helicopter Pilot before retiring.
Kind has represented Wisconsin’s 3rd congressional district since 1997. He won reelection in 2018 60% to 40%.
Despite representing a district that was won by President Donald Trump in 2016 49% to 45%, Kind joined with his fellow Democrats in voting for the president’s impeachment.
The University of Virginia’s Center for Politics currently rates the district as “likely Democratic.”
Garske will be making his announcement at 10:00 AM in Onalaska at the American Legion hall at 731 Sand Lake Road. He will be repeating the announcement at 1:00 PM in Eau Claire at the VFW hall at 1300 Starr Avenue.
