The following is a letter from Rep. Cindi Duchow (R-Town of Delafield) to Gov. Tony Evers.

January 18, 2021

Dear Governor Tony Evers,

I want to share with you my dismay at the decision made by Mercyhealth to vaccinate the Janesville School District. There are hundreds of vulnerable 1A’s next door in Waukesha County that have not been vaccinated. Many of our nursing home and assisted living facilities have not been given this life saving vaccine and you are going to allow Mercyhealth to put healthy 30 and 40 year old teachers ahead of them!

If Mercyhealth is reluctant to send the vaccine to another county, I am sure there are plenty of 65 and older residents in Janesville that are waiting and praying for their turn to get the vaccine. We have heard for nearly a year about not overwhelming our hospitals. The overwhelming majority of COVID patients being hospitalized are over age 65. Dr. Anthony Fauci recently said that the states are taking too much time deciding which categories of patients go first, they should just vaccinate everyone 65 years and older and people with pre-existing conditions. This reckless decision leaves those very people who will most likely end up in a hospital directly in harm’s way.

The lack of planning and organization on this critical vaccine roll out is unconscionable. I would have thought after your administration’s extreme mismanagement of unemployment benefits that you would have learned a lesson. There are plenty of talented people who can help with this process, former U.S Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tommy Thompson and the UW System come to mind. I beg you to please put politics and egos aside and move out of the way. Let others take the reins before more lives are needlessly lost.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter and I am looking forward to hearing from you. Respectfully,

Cindi Duchow
State Representative 99th Assembly District
