The U.S. Department of Labor reported Thursday morning that another 38,000 Wisconsin residents filed for jobless benefits during the week ending May 2.

Wisconsin residents filed 55,883 unemployment claims last week, compared to 50,981 the previous week, a week-over-week decrease of 14,117.

In Wisconsin, the U.S. Dept. of Labor reports 110,724 Wisconsin residents filed for unemployment benefits in the time period ending March 28.

Some official estimates say Wisconsin may receive up to $2.25 billion of the federal stimulus package currently winding through the U.S. Capitol.

“Despite the governor’s claims, his administration blocks legitimate news organizations from receiving media information and attending press briefings,” Suhr said.
